So here’s the story:
About a month after we launched, it was a balmy Friday evening and the team was just about to abandon the studio for margaritas and cheap burritos when we received an email from the lawyers of a Danish fashion label. To our horror, they claimed that our name, was so similar to their clients that it caused a "likelihood of confusion” for our customers and for us to stop using Von Hund immediately. The words in each label’s name had totally different meanings (they have nothing to do with dogs), but the argument that they made was that if you mispronounced our label in English then it sounded somewhat like part of their name. Now, we’re guessing that you are very unlikely to guess the name of this brand, let alone get confused between them and us (not a single person has made the connection to us from last July until now!), but the reality was that they are much bigger than us and despite being advised that we would likely win, we faced a choice: spend our limited time and money on designing and producing new styles, or else risk getting hobbled by legal fees and court time.
And so, we we sucked it up and decided to change our name to Hund Hund. And it’s all good, cause everyone knows that every dog wants a buddy. We look forward to taking this next step together with all of you.
ps. the first shipment of Spring '17 has arrived in our studio and will appear on the website very, very shortly. It’s mostly men’s pants and shirts for men and women. We’ll make the next four shipments available for pre-sale this week, with pre-sales expected to ship during the first week of April.
